Alcohol

Alcoholism is a condition that generates a strong need and anxiety to drink alcohol, so there is a physical dependence on it, manifesting itself through various withdrawal symptoms when ingestion is not possible. The alcoholic has no control over the limits of their consumption, which is increasing as tolerance to this drug develops.

Alcoholism or alcohol dependence is a disease that causes:

  • Anxiety: A strong need to drink
  • Inability to stop drinking once started
  • Tolerance: The need to drink more and more alcohol to feel the same effect
  • Insomnia
  • Isolation
  • Temporary memory loss
  • Violence
  • Assume risk behaviors
  • Inability to limit the amount of alcohol you consume
  • Desire or failed attempts to reduce the amount of alcohol you consume
  • Waste of a lot of time drinking, getting alcohol, or recovering from its consumption
  • Breach of important obligations at work, school or home due to repeated alcohol consumption
  • Continuous alcohol consumption even when you know that this causes physical, social or interpersonal problems
  • Abandonment or reduction of social or labor activities and hobbies
  • Development of alcohol tolerance, so you need more quantity to feel its effect or you have a reduced effect by the same amount
