We think in the needs of the patients

Program for mental health conditions

The treatment is aimed at people who seek help voluntarily and maintain a level of cognitive functioning that allows them to collaborate with their recovery. It focuses on working emotional problems such as:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Eating disorders (bulimia, anorexia nervosa)
  • Disorders corresponding to female physiological changes (births, menopause)
  • Disorders related to old age adjustment

We focus intensely on the therapeutic process. Our system makes it easier for the patient to work to improve their skills and thus manage their lives in a responsible and productive way.

Specialized Treatment Program

The treatment is directed by a psychiatrist, with a therapeutic team composed of social workers, addiction counselors, occupational, recreational therapy, nursing staff and nutrition. Treatment includes individual, group, occupational and recreational therapies. We focus on supporting the person to reintegrate into their family, social and community environment by providing the tools that allow them to deal with situations of daily living. Recognizing that mental health disorders are diseases that affect the whole family, we include family members and significant people in it.

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is a safe and effective treatment for all those patients who do not respond to traditional therapies and medication. ECT provides another option for the relief of severe depression and suicidal thoughts, among other conditions.

Panamericano offers ECT at the hospital units and outpatient units. It is available at Panamericano Ponce, under the supervision of a psychiatrist, an anesthesiologist and nursing professionals.

All patients referred to ECT must have a medical authorization before starting treatment. During the initial evaluation, our professionals will explain in detail the procedure and what to expect before, during and after the procedure

Among the necessary information or data prior to treatment, are:

  • Referred by a psychiatrist
  • Psychiatric and / or substance abuse history
  • Brief medical history and symptoms
  • Allergies
  • Patient strengths
